Arrival / Departure

The arrival day is the Sunday before the course starts and the departure day is the Saturday after the end of the course.

Arrival by Car:
The transport connections to freiburg are very good,
if you are travelling by car, you should take the motorway A5 from Karlsruhe or Basel.

Arriving by air:

Straßburg Airport
is located around 60 km from Freiburg, just south of Straßburg (near Entzheim).

With public transport you can travel to Straßburg (via Offenburg and Kehl), and then there are several ways to reach the airport – bus, tram, or regional trains. By car, one car take the A5 motorway (both in Germany and France).

Karlsruhe-Baden Airport
The airport is about 100km north of Freiburg in between Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe.

ne can reach freiburg from the airport by taking a bus to Baden-Baden (or Karlsruhe) train station and then the train. Alternatively there is a direct bus connection from the airport to freiburg. By car take the A5 motorway (exit Baden-Baden).

Zürich Airport
s located around 150 km from Freiburg. There is a direct connection with the ICE from Freiburg train station to the Zurich train station, from where you can take a regional train to airport. To go by car, take the motorway A5 until Basel and then the A3 to Zurich.

Stuttgart Airport
There are good connections with the train from Freiburg train station to Stuttgart train station via Karlsruhe. Take the S-bahn from Stuttgart train station to reach the airport. By car you can take the motorway A5 and A8.

Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt is around 270 km away and it has excellent train connections to Freiburg. There is a direct ICE train connection from Frankfurt airport to the main train station in about 2 hours.

Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport
The nearest airport to Freiburg is only 60km away and receives international and chartered flights. There is a direct bus to Freiburg from the airport, Freiburger Reisedienst.

Arriving by bus and train:
Freiburg and the surrounding region are very well connected by a network of trains and buses (Öffentlichen Personen-Nahverkehrs (ÖPNV)). For train connections:  Deutsche Bahn

Travelling in the city
Freiburg is a bicycle city. There are more than 500km of dedicated bicycle paths and the population of Freiburg are cycling enthusiasts. The bicycle is the second favourite mode of transport.

Die The bike station and mobility center in the main train station offers a supervised bike park, bike rental and repair service. In addition they offer advice about the public transport available in Freiburg and in Germany.

The books are included in the cost of the course and you can buy additional books, for example dictionaries or grammatical books, from us. If you already have a good dictionary it is better to bring it with you.

Food

In the city center there are lots of restaurants, cafes and bakeries. It is always possible to find something (a coffee costs 2,00 EUR, Coca-Cola - 2,00 EUR, beer, water, juice - 2,50EUR). You can also eat lunch or dinner cheaply in the Mensa /canteen.

Climate/ Weather

Freiburg is the most southern and warmest city in Germany. Freiburg is characterised by cool winters and warm summers in the city and the whole of the Black forest region. The average temperature is between -5 °C in January and +28 °C im July. It can also be very muggy in summer and very humid –cold in the winter.

Sport

Germany offers something for all sports lovers: indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, golf courses, hand-gliding, paragliding, hiking, climbing, biking, Nordic-walking or simply jogging in the wonderful countryside

You can direct your post to the language school and when it is necessary you can send Emails of faxes from our office. There are many internet cafes in the city and you can affordably call world wide with phone cards.
